The chamber was littered with bodies, and not just those of the enemies. The party had noticed the corpses of the unfortunate souls that had met their demise at the hands of the devils, and had even examined some of them, though the still-twitching bodies of their opponents had remained undisturbed.

Now, with the rush of battle having died down, the group notices that there are only 2 entrances or exits into the flooded chamber: the one from which they'd entered, and another directly across from that entrance, a high archway leading onward into the darkness of the sewers.

There is still time to turn back...

Rosalyn slowly creeps towards the doorway they did not come from, not entering it, but simply leaning her sun rod inside to partially illuminate the room.

"Watch yourself, young one," Willow called as the red-haired girl crept toward the remaining entrance. Then, "I can hear something big growling from deeper below," she elaborated, glancing around at the rest of the group. Turning her attention back to the body she crouched next to, Willow quickly rummaged through the poor soul's clothes and belongings, hoping-but not expecting-to find something useful.

Seemingly ignoring the others, Sastre moved toward the corpse of the Bearded Devil, kneeling next to it and studying it in the bright light from the sunrod still clutched tightly in his left hand.

Sastre's brow furrowed as he studied the corpse, realization dawning on him. The Hunter stood up, whistling shrilly for the others to come and join him. His features were clouded with doubt as he stared toward the yawning, dark archway.

Mizzely's ears twitched as the shrill whistle reverberated through the chamber. Wondering what had alerted Sastre, she sauntered over to the Bearded Devil's corpse and checked it over briefly.

Craed pricks his ears up at the whistle and turns his head toward the hunter. "What is it?" He walks to the other doorway, taking his everburning torch from the human woman, and peers in.

The Hunter turned toward Mizzely, his face ashen.

"Something big tore into this guy. In fact, if it weren't for the injuries he already had, I don't think we'd have stood a chance. Even those other, weaker Devils were still more than we could have handled."


He returned his attention to the archway.

"If something down there was able to inflict this much damage on a Bearded Devil, enough so that the Devil ran away, I fear we may be in over our heads..."

Mizzely looked at the wounds inflicted upon the devil and back away, heading towards where Sastre stood to peer down the path that everyone else seemed to be interested in. It dawned upon her that the sounds she had heard earlier may not in fact be the grumblings of the Hunter's stomach, and in fact may actually belong to something that had torn into the demons before they had had their own chance.

She listened as the words Sastre spoke sunk in. "What were you actually sent down here to do, Hunter?"

Willow missed Rosalyn's wink as the warden sorted gingerly through the corpse's possessions, packing away a handful of crossbow bolts and copper coins and discarding a ruined crossbow. Before she had a chance to respond to the girl, however, a piercing whistle cut through the air. Her eyes flashed up to the Hunter as he stared in concern at the body of the bearded devil. Leaving the young fighter staring after her in surprise, Willow headed over to join the rest of the group just as Mizzely spoke.

"Probably to kill as many things as possible," she put in, sending a wry grin in his direction. "My people say he's rather good at it."

Turning her attention to the body at their feet, she looked it over with curiosity.
