Rosalyn caught then torch looking at it a moment, then held it up enough to illuminate the area with her off hand. She held her longsword in her free hand, readying herself. She glared at Sastre, honestly becoming annoyed at his comments, but ignored him. She knew she'd be able to prove herself a capable fighter. She glanced at Willow out of the corner of her eye, smirking at er reaction to her earlier teasing.

Before I forget, i'm going to use a healing surge to bring my HP up to 34.

DM:

Alright, the party begins their trek deeper into the sewer system. Everywhere they go, they see the place in shambles, as if an earlier battle had been fought here. In fact, to lend even more credibility to this, the bodies of several rapidly decaying creatures can be seen strewn about the flooded walkways. They've been picked over by scavengers, and much of their flesh has been eaten away by the harsh, acidic sewage, but from their armor and the horns growing out from their skulls, its obvious that the dead number demons and devils all...

After journeying for what seems like hours, the faint sounds of whimpering and crying can be heard up ahead, and an ominous green glow can be seen from the end of the long corridor...

Mizzely scrunched up her face as the acrid smell that emanated from the corpses. She shivered a little, realizing that in her excitement to come down here and help the city, she hadn't really given solid thought to what she would be facing. She wanted to make a joke or give the people around her a reason to smile, but it was hard to look past the surroundings and find the silver lining, something she prided herself in being able to do.

Spirits, I trust you, as always. If I am needed here, then so be it. Please guide me and my new friends to safety. It never hurt to speak inwardly to them, as they had yet to let her down.

She jumped a body that lay in the middle of the passage, and the slick surface made her loose her footing for just a moment. Her face came inches from that of a corpse and she felt a growl (this forms version of a scream) try to slide up her throat. Thankfully, she regained her composure and prevented from making a noise, something she felt very strongly would be unwise to make right now.

Willow lurched to a stop as she noticed a green glow emanating from the passageway ahead. The lycanthrope scrunched her eyes closed for a moment as the sewage burned at her nose and throat, and for once she cursed her overly-acute senses. It was hard to concentrate with the overpowering smell of waste and decay assaulting her from all sides, but after a moment, she was able to focus once more. Shaking her head clear, she squinted at the sickly glow ahead, trying to determine its source as the sounds of someone-or something-in distress drifted toward the group.

Righted herself from her almost mistake, Mizzely glared at the green glow ahead of their makeshift pack, trying to discern what it could possibly be.

Craed was fascinated at the sights he was seeing. He felt more excited then frightened when he saw the corpses for the first time. The large horns and exotic bones, while disturbing to the others, only aroused curiosity in the dragonborn druid. He had read tales of massive monsters that took entire armies to destroy. These creatures seemed not so frightening in comparison. Keeping an eye on his footing, and an eye on the corpses in case any should rise to attack, he barely noticed the green glow ahead. The sound of crying drew his attention and he quickly searched his memory for any sort of creature that used the sound as a lure into a trap.

Willow: You have no idea what the source of the glow might be.

Mizzely: From the increasingly terrible smell, and the horrendous state of the sewer system, you realize that the glow must be caused by the build up of sewage, which in its stagnate state has become toxic.

Craed: Nothing that you have ever heard about is known to use cries like these to lure people into a trap.

Rosalyn swallowed softly, the smell almost overwhelming, but she carried on. She looked in awe at the corpses that laid strewn about, wondering if anything resembling these creatures had taken out her comrades from before. He glanced up, hearing the faint crying and noticing the green light, raising a brow. She squinted her eyes slightly, trying to figure out what it was.

Padding as quietly as she could across the carnage, Mizzely crept toward the glow. Knowing that it was a chemical reaction to the surroundings as not, as she had initially feared, some ethereal glow from a demon or else, she was a bit calmer. Now she was even more curious then before, and wanted to know what was making the cries, feeling the pain that travelled with the sound. She was careful, however, to not overtake Sastre's lead of their group, respecting his abilities.

Willow strained her senses, but she could make head nor tail of the strange green glow. Seeing Mizzely still advancing cautiously, however, she stepped abreast of the beautiful blue-grey lynx with her sword ready and her ears ringing with the plaintive cries ahead. Keeping a wary eye on the ominous glow, she instead focused her attention on the unseen source of the noises, wracking her brain for what creature might be making them.

Willow: It doesn't sound like any natural creature that you know of. Due to the recent attack on the archipelago, though, and the rumors throughout the city, you assume that its a fair bet that it is some sort of devil or demonic creature.

(This goes for all of you, even if you didn't make a check. You KNOW that demons have attacked, and you KNOW there is a good chance that many of them still remain here.)

Sastre had slunk around long enough.

As he came to the end of the corridor, he turned to face the others, his body a silhouette against the backlight of green. Studying them each in turn, as if once again gauging their worth, he simply nodded once before turning his back on them, whip clutched tightly in his right hand, sunrod in his left.

Without any warning, he simply strode forward into the glowing chamber.

What he saw disgusted him: several corpses (and pieces of corpses) lay strewn about, probably the remains of Rosalyn's companions from the Foreign Quarter. The bodies, though, weren't the only things that disgusted him, for all around the chamber he could see armored devils roaming, dispatching the few survivors that were left. Hot anger boiled up within the Hunter as he was now, finally, confronted by his prey.

Without hesitation he took another step forward and, readying his whip before him, shouted a challenge to any who would dare face him in battle.

DM:

The challenge is answered.
