Sit back, enjoy your drinks
And I hope ye listen well
For as a treat for you all
I've a tale to tell
Now I'm not one to boast or lie
Nor spin a yarn not true
I saw this feat with my own eyes...
And now I'm telling you!
Whisked away to unknown isle
Where sat a mighty ruin keep
Host to creatures alive yet dead
And where crawlies crept and creep
But the soulless weren't the only ones
That dwelt within those walls
For at the door we heard goblin cries
And vicious wolven calls
We raced to battle and found, to our surprise,
A brood of dire cubs
Above them stood their hulking mother
Guarding them from crude yet savage clubs
Singing blades, whistling bow
Iron fists and eldritch blast
Twas a glorious attack, a sight to see!
Though it ended rather fast.
The grateful pack slunk away
Without a backward glance
But our fair ranger had an idea
And began to make her stance
We debated the thought as we cleared the rooms
Of skeleton and bug
And we decided that in the morn
We'd rescue one starving dire cub
We rested for the night
And upon the mornings rise
We awoke to our wild elven friend
And her companions greeting cries
With the new arrivals
We explained the plan once more
We cleared the last few rooms
And opened that final door
From within the darkness
We heard a warning growl
The mother slunk into the light
And approached our rangers with a scowl
The ladies stood their ground
And gave an air of peace
They laid their weapons upon the floor
And the growls began to cease
The dire wolf approached
Upon their arms she stood
The rangers longed to plead their case
But stopped and wondered if they could
And so a hero did step forth
And played a music feast!
Calming unsteady nerves
Attempting to soothe the savage beast
Tense moments passed
(The monks eyes were tightly shut)
When the wolf did sit upon her haunches
As if a common mutt!
The pups gathered around their mother
Eased by her friendly mood
Most were fat and healthy
But some were in desperate need of food
The rangers offered them a meal
Which they gladly took and ate
The mother saw a chance for them
To escape their grisly fate
She pushed two pups into
The ladies loving care
And closed the door into her den
With a final warning glare
And so it came to be
That two dire wolves joined our group
So take that as a warning
For those who'd attack our merry troupe!
