Background:

After piercing the heart of Galdria with Daerist, his enchanted rapier, Arius and his allies—all but Jeyld—were killed in the eruption of energy that also eradicated the Anti-Triumvirate. Though their bodies were destroyed, Arius, Febrien, Hayato, and Brude found that, due to the intervention of powers far beyond them, they had been spared, and their souls resided now within the ether, a place where time held little meaning. They were told that they would be reborn one day, when the world needed them once again, and give the choice of remaining in their old bodies or selecting new ones. Of them all, only Arius and Febrien remained unchanged.

During his time in the ether, Arius found that he was still able to commune with Daerist, the ancient King of Galdria who had sealed his own consciousness within the rapier that came to bear the same name. Daerist claimed that he too had been offered the choice of remaining or passing on to the Blessed Isles, and that he had chosen to stay, to lend his wisdom and aid to Arius and the others. It was through Daerist that Arius learned his curse, which he had thought broken with the destruction of his body, lived on still, for it was an affliction of the soul, not the flesh. Arius was broken, fearing that he had been granted this second chance only to be reborn in the same terrible predicament that he had finally managed to free himself from. To ease the elf’s spirit, Daerist told Arius that the power to break the curse was still within reach, if he would but bind himself to the ancient king’s spirit. Though the decision was difficult, Arius eventually agreed, and he and Daerist found themselves bonded closer than ever.

Time passed, and eventually—as promised—Arius and his companions were finally returned to the world of Bolermos, though a thousand years had passed since the climactic battle against the Anti-Triumvirate. Returned to life with a purpose unknown to them, Arius, Febrien, Hayato, and Brude prepared themselves for yet another adventure…

Personality and Appearance:


In appearance and demeanor, Arius remains much as he once was: he still dresses exclusively in black (though he now forgoes the gauntlets), and he retains his stoic, somewhat off-putting personality. Though his curse is now broken, Arius has found that old habits die hard, and he is still loath to touch another living thing, despite Daerist’s reassurances. With Tempest’s curse broken, Arius has finally regained that which was his right as a Galdrian elf: the ability to sense and interact with the natural flows of magic around him, streams of power unseen by most creatures of the world. Though he has said nothing to his allies, Arius now finds himself struggling with a new dilemma, namely a questionable heritage. That he was always a distant member of the Galdrian royal family was no surprise, but after Daerist’s declaration that Arius was in fact a direct descendant of the Kings of Galdria, the newly-reborn elf finds himself at a loss. Had his parents been lying to him his entire life? And if so, what could they have gained by doing so? Putting that particular problem in the back of his mind, Arius instead turns his attention to more pressing matters: Why has he been brought back, and what has happened to Jeyld, who managed to escape the battle at the last instant?
