As stated before, many people don't remember much of Hai-Lan's past. However, many of the elderly remember the stories all too well...
About 300 years ago, many people from the main continent left to seek out their own place to call home, disgusted by the wars and afraid of the darkness that slowly plagued the land. They found an island off to the south east, where they managed to make their own living, growing their own crops, building their own homes and raising their young, developing their own lives away from the world they had left. But they soon learned nowhere was truly safe...
20 years later...
A demon that had found it's way from the mainland and onto their home, coming across Hai-Lan's capital city, Gespenstia, and began to lay waste to it. The soldiers who served under the then current emperor of all Hai-Lan, Shizuhara Shamamish, quickly fell before the mighty demon's power. The demon himself, who the villagers named Kuro-Gaijin (meaning "Black Foreigner" in their new language they invented, for his black armor and for being from outside the island), was here simply for one reason and one reason only: to satisfy his craving for destruction. Nothing more, nothing less. Finally, a man stepped up, and challenged the demon to a duel. Using amazing talents and techniques no one had seen before, the man finally brought the demon to his knees. However, the demon would not die so easily, so the priests from all across the island, one from each of the five villages they had established, had arrived to perform a ritual.
Three days later, the demon, now in holding and weakened due to the wounds he had received from the brave warrior who stood up to him, looking up as the priests entered the chamber. One of them was holding a blue gemstone, chiseled into the shape of a fox. To the people of Hai-Lan, the fox symbolized peace, and would be the ideal "cage" to hold the demon. The color was chosen merely because it was the favorite color of the majority of the priests.

Once the ritual was performed, the demon was sealed into the stone for all of eternity, only to be released should it be shattered. It was from this point on that all of the people of Hai-Lan were entrusted with guarding what is now known as the Blue Fox, the key that would bring about their destruction should it fall into the wrong hands.
And what of the strange man who battled the demon and won? He was simply a man who forsaw that not everything would be right with the world and would need to develop some way of defense far greater than any sword or spear. This man invented a style of fighting that required what he felt was the greatest weapon of all: the human body. No one knew the name of the inventor it however, as the man was a drifter who had no home. He did eventually settle down in one of Hai-Lan's other cities, eventually starting a family. His techniques were passed down from generation to generation, up until the current master of this unique form of fighting: Hayato Sakasuki.
