PostSubject: The History and Downfall of Galdria   Fri Feb 29, 2008 11:04 pm

In the year 328 of the Age of Creation, several hundred elves underwent a pilgrimage, leaving behind the chaotic civil wars that plagued their people, and abandoning their ancient home far behind them. Three ships, laden with as much as could be carried, spent the next several years exploring Bolermos, seeking out a suitable land to call home. Finally the wandering elves came upon an archipelago and, having tired of their endless wandering, chose a collection of four islands in the south-east as their new home. The elves named their new land “Galdria,” and set up one from among them as King.

For thousands of years, the people of Galdria lived in peace and relative prosperity. Their four islands proved to be very fertile, providing the elves with plenty to eat, and even the poorest among never went hungry. Cúran (the crescent-shaped, large island) was rich with natural resources, including marble quarries and (as was discovered after some preliminary mining excursions) large deposits of silver and iron. The marble that was taken from the quarries was used in constructing the city of Galdria, capital of the Kingdom of Galdria, and it was here that the King and his relatives and servants lived. The silver and iron that came from the mines was used primarily in the crafting of weapons, and it is said that weapons forged of Galdrian steel were once some of the greatest and most sought after weapons upon the world of Bolermos.

The other three, smaller islands were named Cartinu (Upper Star), Endetinu (Middle Star), and Notinu (Lower Star). These Star Islands were relatively unused and left in their pristine, natural conditions, the only exception being Endetinu. On the Middle Star Veran de Galdri, King of the Elves of Galdria during the Kingdom’s final years (1635-1645 A.P.), commanded a military outpost to be constructed, but only after humans from some of the neighboring islands began showing signs of hostility toward the elves.

Februard 13, 1645 A.P.

The Kingdom of Galdria is attacked by an army of human mages and warriors, led by a renegade human Warlock named Feros. With his army behind him, Feros takes the unprepared elves in the night, tearing through the military outpost on Endetinu and making his way to the main island, laying siege to and eventually demolishing the capital city. In the final battle for the city of Galdria, King Veran, who was very skilled in the ancient magical arts of his people, engages Feros in single combat. The ferocious powers that are unleashed in this battle prove to be far to unstable, and a massive explosion of raw energy spills outward, warping anything that it touches and corrupting even the pure-hearted elves and corrupting them, both physically and mentally. King Veran is killed in this outburst, and Feros simply… vanishes, never to be seen again.

The loss of their leader does nothing to stop the army, however, and the Kingdom of Galdria is reduced to ruins, its treasures carried away to the corners of Bolermos and its people dead or in hiding. The few survivors retreat to Notinu, using the small island’s thickly forested terrain to avoid death at the hands of the human army. When eventually the looting and destruction is finished, the army leaves Galdria, returning to wherever it is that they had originally come from.

The elves who survived the massacre soon found out that their once beautiful and tranquil Kingdom overrun by unnatural creatures and monsters created by the magical discharge of Feros and Veran. Worst of all, though, are the elves themselves who were corrupted by the power, for they have become little more than ravenous, carnivorous primitive creatures of amazing strength and speed. The confused, roaming spirits of the elven dead, those who were unable to move on and find peace in the land beyond, now haunt the ruins of the Kingdom, blindly lashing out at any and all who attempt to penetrate the remains of the once great capital city.

Broken and defeated, the survivors of the Galdrian massacre leave their homeland behind them, each of them going their own way and settling in various areas of the archipelago.
