June 22, 2008 – Attended by Tim, Robert, Chelsea, Dave, Josh, and Dan
Arius, Brude, Febrien, Hayato, Kidrin, and Skamos travel a little farther out of the crater and decide to make camp for the night. As the party is sitting around the fire, Febrien notices a halfling wearing a red hat at the edge of the forest. Skamos beckons him over, and the man tells them of a blinding sickness afflicting his tribe. He tried to climb to the Source, the top of the waterfall near their village, but became a Neddick, or outcast, when he returned and the sickness worsened. He asks for help and offers to lead the group safely to his village.
The party agrees, and they set out for the halfling settlement. Upon reaching the gates, however, they are approached by armed sentries, at which point the Neddick disappears into the forest. Skamos convinces the guards to introduce the party to the village elder, and they pass the waterfall that supplies water to the settlement on the way there. The companions enter the tent, and Kidrin asks the elder to let them help find a cure. Arius recognizes the disease as “Eyerot,” which is spread through an infected water source. Skamos passes this on to the elder, who agrees to their assistance, and just before the party leaves, Febrien realizes that the elder himself has been blinded by the affliction. The elder gives the companions a whistle to summon the Neddick, who turns out to be his grandson.
The group sets out for the source of the waterfall, shortly meeting up with the Neddick. They climb carefully up the difficult incline, meeting a party of goblins in a clearing at the top. Febrien runs through the forest to circle the group, while the others attack from the front. Hayato quickly dispatches one enemy, but then slams his war-hammer into the ground, where it sticks fast. As battle rages around him, he attempts to free it, slipping and flying backward to land prone. As the warforged flails about, Arius breaks through the front line, joining Febrien in fighting the stronger opponent in the rear. The group manages to defeat their foes, and Hayato finally manages to recover himself.
As they regroup, they realize that the more powerful goblin was pouring some sort of liquid into the pool feeding the waterfall. Febrien finds a bottle among the enemy’s possessions, and Skamos recognizes the contents as a reagent made from the corpse of a three-day-old rodent corpse. The party returns to the village with the new information, and the shaman proceeds to heal himself and start working on the other villagers. Kidrin and Skamos pull him aside and ask about the “White One’s” location. The halfling tells them of a cave not far away and agrees to lead them there, but warns them that he will leave when they approach.
The companions enter the cave of the “White One,” who Kidrin and Skamos explain is a white dragon. The group fights their way through several interlocking caves, dropping dozens of kobold minions as they pass through. Skamos drops half a dozen with a well placed flame spell, while the others make do with furiously slashing weapons. While time consuming, the onslaught is not particularly difficult, and the party members finally make their way to a split in the tunnel. Febrien notices a set of dragon tracks and guides the group in that direction, staying clear of the booby trapped pressure plates along the way. As they approach the end of the tunnel, they hear the great beast breathing beyond the bend. Febrien leads the group around the corner, and a mighty battle ensues.
Skamos’ flaming sphere does a good amount of damage to the creature, aiding in keeping it cornered and away from the party members. Kidrin, Hayato, and Brude rush in to attack as Arius and Febrien hold back and lodge eldritch blasts and arrows at it. Febrien’s ranged attacks do too little damage, however, so the ranger drops her bow and steps in with swords slashing, losing her offhand weapon in the process. She retreats to safety, however, and resumes her assault via her longbow. Arius fires an eldritch blast at the colossus, but his aim fails and he instead hits the unfortunate warforged, who drops unconscious. The others continue to attack, and Brude finally drops the massive beast. A great cheer rises into the now-still air, and the group members gladly split the wealth of the dragon’s horde.
After dividing the spoils, they follow the second tunnel in hopes of finding the way out; but they must face more hordes of enemies before gaining the exit. After fighting their way past a drake and his minions, they burst into an underground bay where Skamos had arranged for boats to meet them. They find the cave is in chaos, however, as their allies defend against a mob of kobolds and spell casters. The party loses a few boatmen before dispatching the enemies, but eventually all are loaded into the boats. The remaining crew row out to meet a large three-masted ship, which departs for Tenshiir upon their arrival.
The ship reaches Tenshiir without incident, and the group of adventurers procures rooms at an inn, save Kidrin and Skamos, who live there. The first order of business is to visit the Tomb of Seven Names, where Jeyld is buried. As the companions spread out within the tomb, a rather familiar voice is heard… Jeyld, who has reached demi-god status, appears before them. He tells them that he doesn’t know exactly why they’ve been brought back, but he offers gifts to each in turn, and tells them that they must gather certain artifacts and place them upon the alters to bring about an event. The items and their corresponding altars are:
Alaya: Alaya’s Hairpin
Arius: Dryad Dagger
Febrien: Kiera
Gurl: A Descendent
Hayato: The Blue Fox Statue
Jaden: A Holy Symbol
Jeyld: Jeyld’s Lute
Alaya’s hairpin already rests on her altar, and Arius picks up the dryad dagger, which Kidrin and Skamos had placed on his own altar. Febrien attempts to call Kiera, but while she can feel that the enchanted warhorse is near, she is unable to summon her forth. Jeyld gives the party instructions on how to locate and obtain the other artifacts and charges Kidrin with travelling the world and clearing the name of Brude the Betrayed. He also places a sapphire scale on the back of everyone’s hand, that they might be believed and communicate with him when necessary. Skamos has one request before the Dragon Disciple leaves: he asks that music be returned to the world. After some deliberation with his father, Jeyld agrees and gives Skamos a lute, instructing him to give it to a certain barmaid at the inn where the adventurers are staying. He also gives Arius a magic, unbreakable violin and compels him to play whenever he comes upon an inn so that music might be spread throughout the land. Finally, Jeyld must leave, and the group starts to leave the temple. Before they exit, however, Febrien grabs Alaya’s hairpin and rubs it experimentally. Their long-lost ranger companion appears in a flash of light, along with Melanor and Kyrie. The party imparts their story, telling her all of what has happened, and then send her back once more, departing with the hairpin safely in Febrien’s keeping.
They are then attacked by a small band of gnomes, iron defenders, and a drake. The group members try unsuccessfully to reason with their foes, and are forced into battle. They take a good amount of damage, but prevail in the end and return to the inn, having survived another day.
